Aug 19th, 2011, New York City: As New Yorkers look at the Empire State Building this weekend, they will notice the colors of the Indian flag illuminating the iconic building. Although the building has worn these national colors before, yesterday marked the frist time that actual Indians were responsible for flipping the light switch. Bollywood stars Rani Mukherjee and Gulshan Grover along with Hollywood star Reshma Shetty gathered at the Empire State Building to flip the switch in a ceremony organized by the Federation of Indian Americans, the same group responsible for the annual India Independence Day parade in New York City. The Empire State Building will carry the Indian Tri-Colors in honor of the India Day Parade which will be held on Sunday Aug. 21, 2011. The parade will start on Madison Avenue at East 38th street at 12 noon and end at 28th street. There will be a food court & merchandise booths between 27th and 25th street from 11am – 6pm. Cultural festivities will take place on East 23rd street from 2:30pm – 6pm. Rani Mukherjee will serve as the Grand Marshall.
