Discovering Ganesh - A Multimedia Presentation
NYC, December 6, 2007: A team of award-winning Indian and American photojournalists presented the culmination of a three year project entitled Discovering Ganesh at the Jan Larsen Art Gallery in Dumbo, Brooklyn. The multimedia presentation included photographs taken between 2004-2007 and video shorts. In addition to the slideshow, S.R. Raghunathan, senior staff photographer at The Hindu (India's national paper), will gave an informative talk about the significance of Ganesh, his role in the Hindu pantheon and the Ganesh festival itself.

About The Project
The Discovering Ganesh is a project that explores the Hindu deity Ganesh, known as the Remover of Obstacles, Lord of Beginnings and Patron of the Arts, and focuses on the Ganesh Chaturthi, an annual festival which honors this beloved deity. The mission of the project is to educate Americans and non-Hindus around the world about the cultural aspects of India using Ganesh as the entry point. This includes multimedia exhibition, a photography book, several websites and adventure tours all currently at various stages of development.
The lead photographers and producers of this international endeavor include S.R. Raghunathan, senior staff photographer at The Hindu in Chennai; Sudharak Olwe, an award-winning, internationally exhibited photographer formally on staff at The Times of India in Mumbai; India born, US based photo editor and photographer, Seshu Badrinath; India born, US based producer Tegy Thomas; and New York photographer/producer Shana Dressler, who initiated the project in 2004.

Discovering The Purpose
The goal of Discovering Ganesh is to educate Americans and non-Hindus around the world about the cultural aspects of India using Ganesh as the entry point. The project aims to encourage and inspire people to experience India's incredible cultural, spiritual and artistic contributions first hand.
