10 Free Ways for Couples to Enjoy the Season

The holidays are amongst us, and it’s the time of year when lovers seem to be more, well, in love. Perhaps it’s all the lights, cold weather or all the heart-rendering holiday songs, but this is the time of year to really enjoy your relationship. And unless your uncle is Daddy Warbucks, you, like most people, are also on a budget…scratch that… you are on a no-budget. Bibi found 10 free or seriously cheap ways for the two of you to enjoy your holidays while also racking up some serious couple time.

1.     Dress up and head downtown to see all the lights. Of course, if you live in a city like New York, you can head to Rockefeller Center to see the tree and the Macy’s windows, but other cities also hold some fun light activity. In Houston, Highland Village is always fun and of course, Chicago has its Magnificent Mile and Los Angeles has Rodeo Drive, baby!

2.     Catch a parade. There are tons of parades that happen around this time of year. Grab a thermos of hot cocoa and some blankets, and make a day or it.

3.     Volunteer at a Soup Kitchen. There is something about giving to others that makes people feel like all warm and fuzzy inside. Give some of your time to others as a couple…we guarantee it will bring the two of you closer together.

4.     Check your local listings for free concerts and performances. Catch “A Christmas Carol” or some other live performance. It’s free and fun!

5.     White Christmas event number one. If you happen to be lucky enough to have a white Christmas this year, grab a sled and head to the nearest slope. There’s something about careening down a slope in utter free fall that gets that blood pumping. If you can’t find a sled, grab a tray…believe us, it works just as well!

6.     White Christmas event number two. Build a snowman. Remember how happy that made you when you were a kid? Yeah, that feeling never really goes away. Get creative and make yours a replica of Pam Anderson.

7.     String up some lights around your place, play some holiday music and sip on homemade hot apple cider. If you have a fireplace, use it…if not, light a collection of candles for the same effect.

8.     Join a caroling group.  Or grab a few friends and make one yourself. Do it in a mall with a coffee cup in your hand and you may actually make some money.

9.     Take a goofy picture of the two of you, and print them as holiday cards. Spend the evening writing thoughtful captions and mail them out.

10. Go to the mall. Seriously, even with all the people, the cheesy displays, the over zealous temporary store employees and the chance to sit on the big guy’s lap are all high on our list of holiday fun! Keep it cheap, leave your wallet at home.
